The great U.S. hedgehog epidemic

 A nation of enablers?

I was looking at a lady's pic with her son the other day--he appeared to be shipping off to Iraq at the airport looking smart in his uniform. His mother looked very sharp and proud standing next to him. In a related incident I read a letter to the editor the other day in a local newspaper. It was a letter commenting about an article where the city of Portland Oregon is trying to become a sanctuary city for deserters of the Iraq war. This lady was saying in the letter she was the proud wife of a marine the proud daughter of a marine and the proud mother of a marine. She went on to say if another country (canada) did not see fit to house deserters why should we. And then the usual venom spewed at people for not respecting soldiers protecting their country, etc....Too bad the lady does not know how to read a book or watch a dvd with a conflicting tale to tell say "Fahrenheit 911". So while pondering these women the word enabler came to mind--I will now post the definition I found online - pay close attention to the last sentence and tell me what you think?

An enabler in most definitions is a person who through his or her actions allows someone else to achieve something. Most often the term enabler is associated with people who allow loved ones to behave in ways that are destructive. For example, an enabler wife of an alcoholic might continue to provide the husband with alcohol. A person might be an enabler of a gambler or compulsive spender by lending them money to get out of debt.

In this fashion, though the enabler may be acting out of love and trying to help or protect a person, he or she is actually making a chronic problem like an addiction worse. By continuing to lend money to the gambler, for example, the gambler doesn’t have to face the consequences of his actions. Someone is there to bail him out of trouble and continue to enable his behavior.

The term enabler is also part of the larger definition of codependency. Codependency at first arose as a definition of adaptive behaviors a person might make if he or she lives with someone with substance abuse or severe emotional problems. A codependent tends to remain so, because he or she adapts to or ignores the behaviors of the ill person. In fact, the codependent often becomes an enabler because it allows one to be involved in fewer conflicts.

p.s. when local taxes are raised around the country in a time of war in this case it is because our hard earned dollars are going to Iraq to fund halliburton workers among other things and bombs made by Bush's father etc so then they say they will not raise taxes but because of a lack of transfer payments back to the states bridges collapse etc....so when you think it is a volunteer army well they are the ones spending the money to make wicked people rich...so Iraq was found to have no ties to Al Qaeda---no ties to 911--no weapons for mass destruction--does it make you proud to have your husband or child go to a place to occupy (read bully) a country to give our private companies outrageous oil contracts that would never be gotten without gun fire?....so our government lies to go to war...kills innocent people to steal their oil...and no one has a problem with that...a country of enablers in my opinion.

And in case you are wondering I was trying to watch the olympics when all of a sudden our wonderful lieing stealing murdering president shows up to whatever a big turn off for me. No thanks. He can't even let our athletes alone....after the president shook hands with one lady the interviewer asks so how do you feel now--she says "I am locked, loaded and ready to rumble" or something to that effect a wonderful example of what living in the states in the Bush years will do to a person.

 The Fillibuster (my latest poem)

The Fillibuster
has lost its luster
it could stop the war funding
maybe the campaign finance bundling
but who did it would lose their job
and be as common as a man named bob
maybe even lose his wife
on account of the lack of money in
his life
used to be they didn't care
they wanted to make things square
make their deeds match their words
now they are worried about the kurds
will they steal the oil
you mean will they make us toil
like brazil
do we have the will
to do an honest days work
or do we have to lie steal and kill
and be the world's biggest jerk?

 Latest poem--" The Bomb"

The Bomb (a true story)

He wanted to be patriotic
he wanted to show he cared
name a bomb after me it seemed hypnotic
to think that he even dared
a bomb to fall on al qaeda
and it's iraqi allies
with pin point precision
killing only the bad guys
no need to make a decision
about collateral damage
or if more enemies we will make
to black gold we pay homage
and it is just there for us to take
while our favorite sport it is nascar?
how in shape those men must be
whose fans resemble the sloths of Madagascar
and private oil contracts is what we will call victory.

 Activism song

"Counterfeit change real dollars"

Conterfeit change real dollars
our leaders pontificate
while the common man hollers
for truth justice and the american way
they used to run to serve
now they run to make hay
they used to run to serve now they run to make hay

it is said we learn from history or are sure to repeat it
the lie keeps coming before i get a chance to delete it
no congressman can change things none is without transgression
the robber baron politicians preceded the great depression
the common people for bankruptcy do file
yet concerning thier leaders are still in denial
corruption and sin have marred our landscape
while they use terrorism and al qaeda as their goat of scape

chorus--

change change is the word of the day
while taking corporate dollars for to stay
in the election and in the hunt
there is no time for reflection
they don't serve who they consider runts

chorus

no bid companies have prospered for certain
oil companies make record profit
our leaders affiliation does not pertain
people in the know for stocks saw fit
to buy large amounts
somehow this conflict
of interest doesn't count

chorus

so who will stand up and be counted
who will actually give a damn
who like the police of canada will be mounted
and stop our latest vietnam
where like the incident at the gulf of tonkin
didn't happen
our leaders for their lies shouldn't we be conkin
them or at least rappin?
about the injustice and lies
or do we give up and give in
to the lord of the flies?

chorus

(fool me once shame on you fool me twice shame on me)

 Your republican nominee at work!

I was going to post the article where Mr. McCain upon finding that cigarette exports had increased to Iran said "well maybe that is another way of killing them"....ha ha ha..from the guy that brought you ...Bomb bomb bomb bomb bomb Iran to the tune of Barbara Anne by the beach boys...it is hard for me to comment on him without swearing in frustration at the caliber of leaders we have...it amazes me their are any republicans left..but I only became a democrat because I believe voting independent or green or whatever is a wasted vote..but I also believe that is where the real leadership change is but alas they do not have the corporate money needed to win...a catch 22 indeed...so now I will post my 3 favorite activist poems I have written for your viewing pleasure...

This first one is my take on the Iraq war very concise.

Vengeance is mine
says the Lord
but you unleashed the angry horde
there were no wmd's
but you had people to please
a dad with a score to settle
greedy people who were not afraid to meddle
with laws and people's sons
wanting to make america #1
so they attack a foreign land
without much of a plan

Number 2 is what I see as the 2 primary choices american people leaders make--ie being a dutiful yesman in the majority or living by one's own set of values damn the torpedoes.

Mr. Yes and Mr. Right
Both went out in the light
mr. yes did his best
to not upset the left and right
mr. right did what was right
and was always up for the good fight
of righteousness and what was true
mr. yes always knew what to do
did what was asked and expected
many people and the truth were neglected
he prospered here and he prospered there
he appeared to be truly "out of sight"
mr. right plodded along
sure and steady stayed away
from what was wrong
the first one died wealthy
and famous
the second one like the prophet named amos
hung in there and made change aright!

And number 3 is my most recent which I believe is self explanatory.

My last one is called "Counterfeit change real dollars" I submitted it several days ago and it is not on line...either it is too real for them and they deleted it or they like it and are considering publishing it..poetry.com that is..so it went something like this as I do not have the original...

"Counterfeit change real dollars
the economy is in dissaray
while the common man hollars
change change is the word of the day
wages stay the same while the rich are making hay
getting rich on government contracts and stocks
while taking away our country's building blocks
things like free speech and our right to assemble
but doing it subtley leaving nothing to gamble
by paying a reporter a very high wage
he doesn't use his skill and doesn't come of age
writing to keep his job for and with the status quo
he ignores the truth and as a person doesn't grow."
